Family Tartans

For the travelers, one possible souvenir would be items in one's own family tartan.

Here are examples of the Wallace plaid. Wallace, being a fairly obvious Scottish name, has several choices. My Grandmother Wallace, when she went to Scotland, brought back fabric samples. My mother made a nice vest for herself and then gave it to me. It's far too small for me today, but fit me a long time ago.

McClellan is a little harder to pin down since there are many variations of spelling. This site seems to have the tartan that shows up the most on searches. And since it's a pretty one, the McClellans might as well pick that one.

Olinto, not being Scottish or Irish, does not seem to have a family plaid. However, there is an Olinto family that owns a fabric store. They've been in business over 30 years.

Now, to really delve into family history, Olinto was not the family name back in the "Old Country." It was Bacci and Bacci Olinto switched it when he came to the "New World". The records we saw at Ellis Island confirmed this. I searched on the Bacci family and found this. So, they were all cow-herders.

And, I've always thought that the McClellan family motto should be "Non multum in ampulla vini."
